Cold Plunge Therapy in Bergen County at Padel United Sports Club
At Padel United Sports Club in Bergen County, we’ve built a state-of-the-art wellness center that combines padel courts with a full spa. Our new Oasis recovery area includes a cedar sauna, steam room, hot tub, saltwater with a mineral filter, and of course a cold plunge pool. This indoor cold plunge is ice-cold water therapy in a controlled environment. Originating from Nordic and athletic traditions, a cold plunge means entering a chilly tub (around 45–55°F) for a brief time. It invigorates the body and sharpens the mind, as we describe on our site. Many professional athletes and trainers use ice baths after workouts.
Cold-water immersion (cold plunge therapy) is gaining popularity in Northern New Jersey. Spas and clubs around Bergen County now offer cryotherapy and ice baths. We’re proud that Padel United’s wellness center opened in early 2025 with exactly these amenities. Our cold plunge is part of a complete recovery suite: after a padel match you can warm up in the sauna or steam room, then cool off instantly in the cold plunge. No other local club offers padel + full spa like we do. Members and guests book the Oasis Day Pass to enjoy all this: sauna, saltwater with a mineral filter, yoga and more, plus hot/cold contrast baths for peak recovery.
How Cold Plunge Works
Cold plunge therapy (also called cold-water immersion) works by exposing your body to very cold water. The sudden cold triggers blood vessels to constrict, sending warm blood to your core and brain. When you exit the cold water, blood flow rushes back to the extremities. In short, a quick ice bath can mean you feel fresher and stronger in the hours after a tough workout.
Psychologically, cold plunging also has benefits. A single brief dip in cold water can lift mood and clear the mind. Cold exposure may boost energy and help you feel more resilient.
Benefits of Cold Plunge
Reduces muscle pain and swelling. Cold water constricts blood vessels and lowers tissue inflammation, easing soreness after exercise.
Speeds recovery. By minimizing exercise-induced muscle damage, an ice bath means you bounce back faster the next day.
Improves alertness and mood. Cold immersion can trigger a jolt of energy that leaves you feeling active and positive.
Reduces stress. Regular cold exposure may help lower stress over time.
Padel United’s Wellness Amenities
We designed our Cresskill club to be an all-in-one padel and wellness destination. In addition to seven indoor padel courts and a café, our wellness lounge ("The Oasis") offers:
Cedar Infrared Sauna: A dry-heat cedar sauna helps relax muscles and detoxify. By penetrating deep into muscles and joints, it boosts circulation and eases tension. It’s a great warm-up before hitting the cold plunge, or a way to unwind after.
Steam Room: Our steam room fills the air with warm steam for respiratory relief and refreshed skin. It’s the moist-heat counterpart to the dry sauna. Breathing in the steam can clear airways, and the warm humidity helps muscles unwind.
Hot Plunge (Hot Tub): A heated whirlpool with jet massage. Like a jacuzzi, it soothes sore muscles and promotes circulation by easing tension in the warm water. Many members spend time alternating between hot and cold baths (the classic sauna ↔ ice-bath contrast therapy).
40-foot Saltwater with a Mineral Filter: A large aquatic pool for gentle swims or aqua-walking. Its saltwater design is naturally buoyant and easy on the joints, and the salt has its own skin benefits. After your workout or steam session, a cool swim can be very refreshing.
Cold Plunge Pool: Our ice bath, a small pool kept just above freezing (around 50°F). The instant chill shocks your circulation in a good way. The cold plunge invigorates the body and sharpens the mind. We invite members to hop in fully, feeling the adrenaline and rapid breathing that follow the plunge.
Ammortal Red-Light Chamber: A cutting-edge recovery device where you lie in a sealed chamber with LED lights. In just a 20-minute session, members can recharge energy levels with non-invasive red- and near-infrared light therapy. (This high-tech chamber helps re-energize the body and support peak performance.)
Yoga & Stretch Studio: Multiple daily yoga and stretch classes are included with membership. Gentle stretching and breathing, or more vigorous vinyasa flows, can complement spa recovery.
By combining these elements, our club delivers a complete recovery environment. Members often follow a sequence like: sauna (warm up) → cold plunge → hot tub → swim → cold plunge again. This cycle of heat then cold is known to further stimulate circulation and recovery. Bergen spas now offer both cryotherapy and ice baths, but Padel United is unique in bundling that with padel play. We’re proud to be one of Bergen County’s first sports clubs with an integrated padel + spa center.
How to Use the Cold Plunge (Tips for Members)
Using our cold plunge safely will help you gain benefits without risk. Here are our guidelines:
Warm Up First. We strongly recommend spending a few minutes in the sauna or steam room (or at least a warm shower) before your first plunge. This gently raises your core temperature and blood flow.
Ease In Slowly. Start by dipping feet and legs in first. Take a few slow breaths. When you’re ready, immerse up to your neck. The initial shock will cause heavy breathing; that’s normal. Focus on steady inhales and exhales.
Short Durations to Start. Beginners should begin with only 30–60 seconds in the cold water. Most people gradually work up from about 30 seconds to 5–10 minutes at a time. Never stay longer than you feel safe. Even a very brief dip will trigger benefits.
Warm Up After. When you exit, dry off and return to the sauna or hot tub, or at least wrap up in a towel. Gentle movement or a warm drink can help your body return to normal temperature.
Repeat If Desired. Many members do 2–3 cycles of warm/cold contrast. After the first cold plunge and re-warming, you can step back in for another brief dip. Each round can boost circulation.
Listen to Your Body. It’s normal to feel tingling, a rise in heart rate, and deep breathing, but you should never feel numb, lightheaded, or have chest pain. If you start to shiver uncontrollably or feel unsafe, step out immediately.
Cold plunges should be done with caution in certain cases. For example, if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or other vascular issues, consult your doctor first before using an ice bath. The shock of cold water is powerful. It’s best for healthy adults who do not have serious medical conditions. Pregnant women or people with respiratory illnesses should ask a physician for approval. Also, never do the cold plunge alone if you’re new to it. Always have someone nearby when you first try it.
